Abrasion

Sometimes, an abrasion hurts the most. That thin film of skin scraped from the flesh. That stinging wound too shallow to trigger blood....

When I’m Left with Nothing

The days are too long
Nights are much longer
Every day goes on and on
No change, no surprise
Nothing

I do nothing
But wait for darkness to come by
Count the minutes before dawn
Give in to the mundane

Everything fails to impress
Everyone becomes a faceless blur
Seems the only worthwhile thing to do
Is to cock my head and stare at space

Jeni Live in Manila

Note: This is not a recent post. These events happened last year. This was originally a post on my Tumblr, but I accidentally deleted it. I wanted to add a video, but I didn't know how to place photos and videos in one Tumblr post. So, yea. I migrated the post here. Because I'm a big idiot, that's why.

I'm sharing my photos from my adventures in the great old city! It was a rockin' weekend.

Tip!! This was in Trinoma. We were having Taco Bell for dinner.

Bemita ooh lala!

Kirbeiber!

We went to UP Diliman for the UP Underground Music gig. Saw Ciudad and And Bandang Shirley perform live for the first time. It was euphoric.

Tip's dazed face in the Dutdutan 2012 event.

Madame Bemita :))

Gawd, I miss productions. :(

Tip and Bemjo with Shepot

This is a traditional way of tattoo making, also called hand-tapped. The tattoo artist is called the mambabatok.

Another awesome artwork on the making by a mambabatok.

Oh, and I had my first tattoo. :p

This is a baybayin tattoo. I won't tell you what it means. I want it to be mysterious--unless you know about the baybayin alphabet. XD Hehe.

That's Kuya Kim, the tattoo artist. :)

This is a video of my first tatt experience. Bemj and Tip took it. See the blood? Haha! I'm planning to have more, but my mom's still a bit upset. I think I'll wait for another year or two. Ha!

These additional photos are from my friend Sheree. Gotta lover her. And her DSLR. lol.

It's really great to experience new adventures with friends. That was the awesomest weekend this year! I really miss my friends, and I'm glad we had a chance to jega, jega, and more jega. We'll never know. The world might end by December. Better enjoy while we're still alive, young, and happy. As my friends often mockingly quote, these are simple pleasures that are worth our time. :)

She Said the Moon Is for Writers

She said the moon has been created
For writers to gaze at
Alas! I have this box of a room
I can't see it from my window

I can't possess the magic then?
I can't be part of the fellowship?
I can't be enlightened
As the thousand others who can see?

Rizal was in prison
With bars and chains and guards
There was probably no moon there too
He probably felt alone too

But hey! He created a masterpiece
He created something that inspires
Even though there was (probably) no moon
To guide his unsteady quill

Perhaps I can be the same too
Or perhaps I can just cut a moon
And place it on my wall
I'll put tiny golden stars as well
I'll make it as bright as the evening sky

Yes . . . Yes . . .
I can do that
And I will stare at it always
Until I'm old and fat

World Read Aloud Day 2013

Two days ago, the planet celebrated the World Read Aloud Day--well, those who knew about the event, that is. I contributed six oral reading pieces--two are poetry and the rest are excerpts from four of my favorite books.

I've archived them here for you who want a quick peek. Also for future references. Oh, I have a late contribution! I was not able to publish it on March 6 because I left the recording on my phone. Loser. I know.

This last one's from Charles Bukowski. I apologize for the bored, droning voice. Hope you can understand at least 70 percent of what I am reading. Haha! It was hard to make these videos because the only editing software I have right now is Windows Moviemaker. And I tell you, it is not user friendly. At all. I can't find a decent Adobe Premiere Pro installer. Leche.

Anyway, here they are. Enjoy! Or don't. Your life.

Scribbles on Blank Pages

An artist fears a blank canvas
A writer fears a blank paper
Is there a difference if the paper is lined?
Will lines stimulate the doubting mind?

I, for one, am baffled by blank spaces
I might not survive if you forced me to minimalism!
The blank paper is a cage
Trapping my thoughts within its four, white corners

So I scribble and I doodle and I scribble some more
I would have doodled all the way if I knew how to draw
Scribble, scribble, scribble
Scribble, scribble, scribble

I scribble until my blank page is full
Alas! My thoughts are still nowhere
Or everywhere—
Scattering fear and frustration in my messed up
Hole of a room
